What We Do

ENERGY SAVING TECHNOLOGIES

A Greener Wallet and a Greener Planet

Energy Efficiency is a MUST for South African companies based on the high increases in electricity prices and the constant threat of load-shedding. By taking measures to reduce your energy consumption you will be helping to reduce the risk of load-shedding, which in turn impacts on productivity, especially when it happens during business hours.

SOLAR ENERGY

We have used the sun to our advantage for thousands of years, from heating food and water and making fire, to making electricity and reflecting the sun’s rays for light. Solar energy and its uses are certainly not new.

Today the solar industry is flourishing, and is rapidly becoming a part of everyday life. With the effects of global warming becoming more noticeable and the depleting oil wells and coal mines, we are becoming more and more dependent on renewable energy. It will certainly play a huge role in the future as people look to become more self sustainable.

WAYS TO GO GREEN AND SAVE

Install a solar water heater

This can save the most electricity of all. It typically saves about two thirds of water heating cost, but this varies and it should be installed with a timer for the best possible saving.

Install a heat pump

If a solar water heater is not possible, heat pumps are another option. Heat pumps save between 60-70% of you water heating bill, and water heating constitutes between 40-60% of your average household electricity consumption.

There are many different sizes of heat pump and depends on the volume of water that needs to be heated. A 150L geyser would use a 3.8kW heat pump which draws 0.9kWs of electricity to create the equivalent of 3.8kWs of heat energy.

Though minimal, heat pumps do require an annual service to keep them performing in an optimum manner. Heat pumps are extremely reliable. They use the same process as a home fridge or freezer and have the same level of dependability and life expectancy. Most brands have a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty.

Energy Saving

LIGHTING

Installing LED globes, or natural skylights reduces the amount of energy required to attain the same level of illumination compared with using traditional incandescent light bulbs. Compact fluorescent lights use one-third the energy of incandescent lights and may last 6 to 10 times longer.

New Light Bulbs: what’s the difference?

Traditional incandescent bulbs use a lot of energy to produce light.
· 90% of the energy is given off as heat
· That lost energy is money we are throwing away
Newer energy-saving light bulbs provide the choices in colours and light levels you’ve come to expect. The new lights are also much more efficient — so they save you money.

What are my Lighting Choices?

FLS – ABOUT 75% ENERGY SAVINGS

Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are simply curly versions of the long tube fluorescent lights you may already have in a kitchen or garage. Because they use less electricity than traditional incandescents, typical CFLs can pay for themselves in less than nine months, and then start saving you money each month.

LEDS – ABOUT 75%–80% ENERGY SAVINGS

The light emitting diode (LED) are a type of solid-state lighting — semiconductors that convert electricity into light. Although once known mainly for indicator and traffic lights, LEDs in white light, general illumination applications are one of today’s most energy-efficient and rapidly-developing technologies.

WIND ENERGY AND WIND POWER

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to make sustainable electricity. Wind energy is a free, renewable resource, so no matter how much is used today, there will still be the same supply in the future. Wind energy is also a source of clean, non-polluting, electricity.

What you need to know about wind turbines

Wind turbines come in different sizes and designs to meet a range of residential needs. We will assist you with assessing your energy needs and give advice on the most suitable wind turbine for you.

The Advantages of Wind Turbines

While wind turbines may not be able to meet all your home’s energy needs, their supplemental power is enough to significantly reduce your electricity consumption and your carbon footprint. In addition, excess power generated on particularly windy days can be stored in a battery.
